His life and Being Human Foundation!
Looks like two of Bollywood’s big names — actor Salman Khan and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali — have set their eyes on Raghava Lawrence’s film titled, Muni 2: Kanchana (2011). Both Salman and Bhansali are fighting for the rights of the Tamil comedy-horror, which has been written, produced and directed by Lawrence, for a Hindi remake.
An industry insider reveals, “Salman wanted to buy the rights of the film since the beginning. In fact, he wanted to act in it and wanted his brother Sohail to direct it. However, initially it was said that they were quoted a huge amount for the rights of the movie. And around the same time Bhansali entered the picture.”
The insider adds that while the fight over who will get the rights was still on, some other developments came into light. “It seems that the rights would be sold only on the condition that Lawrence, the original director, will direct the Hindi version of the film as well. That is one possible reason why Salman may not be in the picture anymore,” reveals the insider.
If the insider is to be believed, Bhansali will be the one finally making the remake and will eventually have Lawrence on board to direct the film. However, there’s no discussion on the casting of the Hindi remake as nothing has been finalised so far.
Muni 2: Kanchana is a prequel to Lawrence’s 2007 venture, Muni. In fact, it is also rumoured that he is in the process of making Muni 3.
