Rajasthan high court rejected the revision petition filed by the state government against Actor Salman Khan in the 14-year-old blackbuck poaching case.
Salman Khan need not travel to Jodhpur for personal appearance before the court. This decision comes as a major relief to the actor; the high court also directed the lower court to commence a trial in the long pending case.
Hastimal Saraswat, legal counsel for Salman, said that another case was registered against the actor by the forest department on October 15, 1998 under the Arms Act. It states that the arms used by Khan during poaching of the black bucks at Kankani area on the night of October 1, 1998, had their license expired and hence he had been using those arms unlawfully.
The government counsel, Mahipal Bishnoi, said that there was no point in proceeding with the long pending petition by the Rajasthan government. The court had not only rejected the petition filed by the government but has left it to the judgment of the lower court to continue the trial.
Actors Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam were accused of poaching two Blackbucks with Salman Khan, the incident had taken place on October 1 and 2, 1998 in Kankani village near Jodhpur during the shooting of the film 'Hum Saath Saath Hain'.
